Here we will talk you through opening an SVG file in the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or Business Edition software.

SVG files will not open with the Basic Edition software although this same method will work if you are opening DXF Files in the Silhouette Studio Basic Edition.

Firstly open up your Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or Business Edition software. It should look a little something like this:

There are a three ways (that I know of) to open SVG files in Silhouette Studio.

How to Open SVG Files in Silhouette Studio:

Method 1: Importing SVG Files Directly

  1. Launch Silhouette Studio: Open the Silhouette Studio software on your computer. If you haven’t already installed it, make sure to download and set it up.
  2. Create a New Document: Start a new project by clicking on “File” and then selecting “New.”
  3. Import Your SVG File: Click on “File” again, but this time choose “Open.” Browse your computer for the SVG file you want to import and click “Open.”
  4. Edit and Customize: Once the SVG file is loaded, you can resize, recolor, or customize it according to your project’s requirements.
  5. Cut Your Design: When you’re satisfied with your design, it’s time to prepare it for cutting. Make sure your Silhouette machine is connected, and follow the prompts to send the design for cutting.

Method 2: Using Silhouette Studio’s Designer Edition

If you have Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or higher, you can directly open SVG files without converting them to other formats.

  1. Open Silhouette Studio: Launch the software on your computer and ensure you’re signed in.
  2. Create a New Project: Start a new project by clicking on “File” and selecting “New.”
  3. Import the SVG File: Click on “File” and choose “Open.” Locate the SVG file on your computer and click “Open.”
  4. Customize Your Design: Now, you can resize, modify, and prepare your SVG design as needed.
  5. Cut and Create: Once your design is perfect, follow the prompts to send it to your Silhouette cutting machine for precision cutting.
